HOCATT™ Ozone Sauna on the Sunshine Coast — More Than Just a Sauna
Recovery, circulation, heat exposure, oxygenation, cellular energy and nervous system down-regulation — these are some of the reasons people are becoming increasingly interested in technologies such as HOCATT™.
But HOCATT™ is much more than a sauna.
What makes HOCATT™ interesting is the combination of multiple wellness technologies within one system. Instead of looking at heat, ozone, carbon dioxide, infrared and electromagnetic fields separately, HOCATT™ brings a number of modalities together during the one session.
At Breathe & Connect Wellness Studio in Little Mountain on the Sunshine Coast, this is one of the reasons we chose HOCATT™. We wanted technology that complemented our philosophy of supporting the whole person — not simply focusing on one isolated area of the body.
The Science Behind the HOCATT™ Experience
One of the main components of HOCATT™ is heat.
When your body is exposed to heat, it doesn't simply make you sweat. Heat creates a series of physiological responses as your body works to regulate its internal temperature.
Blood vessels near the skin dilate, circulation changes, heart rate can increase and sweating begins. Sauna research has become particularly interesting because regular heat exposure is being investigated for its potential relationship with cardiovascular health and other aspects of wellbeing.
Then HOCATT™ adds another layer: carbonic acid therapy.
Carbon dioxide applied through the skin has been studied for its effects on local blood flow and microcirculation. Increased carbon dioxide in tissue can also influence the way haemoglobin releases oxygen — a physiological phenomenon known as the Bohr effect.
In simple terms, carbon dioxide and oxygen aren't independent of one another. Changes in carbon dioxide can influence how readily oxygen is released from haemoglobin into tissues.
It's one of the fascinating pieces of physiology behind why carbon dioxide therapies continue to be investigated.
HOCATT™ also incorporates far-infrared and, depending on the program, technologies including PEMF and electrical or frequency-based modalities.
Rather than one technology doing everything, it's the combination that makes HOCATT™ unusual.
So Where Does Ozone Come Into It?
Ozone is probably the part of HOCATT™ that creates the most curiosity.
During a session, your body is enclosed within the HOCATT™ chamber while your head remains outside. Steam opens the pores and ozone is introduced into the chamber around the body.
Importantly, you are not breathing the ozone.
Ozone is highly reactive, which is precisely why it has attracted scientific and medical interest — but it's also why claims about ozone need to be made responsibly.
There is research investigating medical ozone in a number of settings, but that doesn't mean every health claim you may read online about ozone has been proven.
At Breathe & Connect, we'd rather explain the physiology and emerging research than tell you HOCATT™ can cure everything.
It can't.
No wellness technology can.
Why People Are Adding HOCATT™ to Their Recovery Routine
For many of our clients, the attraction isn't one individual modality. It's being able to dedicate a period of time to recovery while experiencing several technologies together.
People are increasingly realising that performance isn't only about how hard you can push your body.
Recovery matters too.
Exercise creates a physiological stress.
Long working hours create stress.
Poor sleep creates stress.
Emotional pressure creates stress.
And many of us have become extremely good at adding more demands to our bodies without deliberately creating opportunities to recover.
That's where I think technologies such as HOCATT™ become interesting.
You sit inside the chamber with your head comfortably outside while your body is surrounded by warmth and steam. As the session progresses, you begin to sweat and your body responds naturally to the heat.
There's nothing you need to achieve.
You aren't exercising.
You aren't scrolling through your phone.
For that period of time, you've deliberately stopped.
And sometimes that is something our bodies don't get enough of.
What About Detox?
This is probably one of the biggest claims you'll see associated with saunas and HOCATT™.
I think we need to talk about it properly.
Your body already has remarkable detoxification systems. Your liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal system and other organs are constantly processing and eliminating substances.
Sweating also occurs during heat exposure, and researchers have investigated the presence of various compounds in sweat.
But I don't believe we need to tell people that HOCATT™ somehow “cleans every toxin from your cells” to make the technology interesting.
The physiology of heat exposure, circulation, carbon dioxide, oxygen delivery and the other technologies involved is interesting enough without making promises that science can't yet support.
HOCATT™ on the Sunshine Coast
At Breathe & Connect Wellness Studio in Little Mountain, near Caloundra, HOCATT™ forms part of a much bigger approach to wellbeing.
We also use HUGO™ Professional PEMF, breathwork, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy because we don't see the body and mind as two completely separate things.
And we don't believe one machine, one treatment or one practice is the answer to everything.
Sleep matters.
Movement matters.
Nutrition matters.
Your nervous system matters.
Your emotional wellbeing matters.
And recovery matters.
These are also technologies and practices that we use ourselves. As we get older, we're increasingly interested not just in how long we live, but in how well we can live — staying active, recovering well and having the energy to enjoy our lives.
If you've been searching for HOCATT™ on the Sunshine Coast, you're welcome to experience the technology at Breathe & Connect Wellness Studio in Little Mountain.
Come because you're curious.
Ask questions.
Understand the technology.
And then decide whether HOCATT™ deserves a place in your own wellness and recovery routine.
